James Morrison
INSTRUMENTS
James Morrison is, by anybody’s standard, a virtuoso in the true sense of the word. Besides the trumpet, this multi-instrumentalist also plays trombone, piano, saxophone, and double bass.
At the age of six James started on piano, at seven he took up brass, at nine he formed his first band and by thirteen, he was playing professionally in nightclubs.
His international career developed just as quickly with a debut in the USA at the Monterey Jazz Festival at age sixteen.
Following this were performances at the world’s major jazz festivals, including Montreux, North Sea, Nice and the Hollywood Bowl, playing with many of the legends of jazz - Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, George Benson, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Ray Brown and Wynton Marsalis to name a few.
James also frequents the world’s most famous jazz clubs – Birdland, The Blue Note and Village Vanguard in New York, the New Morning in Paris, the Tokyo Blue Note, and Ronnie Scott’s in London.
James has been appointed a member of The Order of Australia, has won countless awards and has been inducted into the Australian Jazz Hall of Fame.
He has received several honorary Doctorates and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Australia, leading his own music Academy.
James Morrison plays Schagerl trumpets on and off the stage and boasts his very own range of Schagerl trumpets for students and professional brass players.

"I have been playing trumpet since I was old enough to hold the thing. My father taught me, and his father, him. After 20 years playing this beautiful instrument things were getting serious. So one day I sat in the largest music store I could find and had the sales clerk bring me every trumpet they had. I tested every make and every model, not wanting to know the label or manufacturer. This is the trumpet I chose – Schagerl Modell T-2000 – and I have been playing it every day since for over a decade.
Some things have changed. Schagerl have added my signature logo, and together we custom designed a new colorway that compliments the modern stage. This is an instrument that was never meant to blend in and settle amongst its backdrop. Its superb warmth cuts, carves and chisels its mark in any arrangement just like the people who dare to play it.
This trumpet has taken me places I never could never possibly dream. And now I pass it on to you my friend. Let it take you where you dare to go and share this thing we are so blessed to call music! Peace, love and rock n roll."

Schagerl Model “1961”
“Indiana Jones once went on a crusade for the Holy Grail. It’s a shame he never thought to look in Melk, because he would have found it straight away, and with far less trouble! The 1961 is in fact that Holy Grail I’ve been searching for.
A fantastically rich core. Excellent flexibility. Brilliant response, perfect tuning, and can be wielded to produce any of the colours that we are required to give at the drop of a hat in the Studio. The 1961 is a sheer joy to play. I’ve always wanted to have one horn that I can use to fit the entire range of tonal qualities that my career requires, and to say I’m impressed with what Schagerl have designed would be a gross understatement. It is indeed, super!”
